The OSCE has a comprehensive approach to security that encompasses politico-military, economic and environmental, and human aspects. All 57 participating States enjoy equal status, and decisions are taken by consensus on a politically, but not legally binding basis.

ICT Assistant

Background:

This is a short-term position until the end of 2020.

The Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) is the principal institution of the OSCE responsible for the human dimension. ODIHR is active throughout the OSCE area in the fields of election observation, democratic development, human rights, tolerance and non-discrimination, and the rule of law. ODIHR’s assistance projects and other activities are implemented in participating States in accordance with ODIHR’s mandate.

ICT Unit in addition to its regular duties and activities keeps ICT end-user hardware up to date, in line with the equipment lifecycle. The recent developments related to the pandemics resulted in the increased number of hardware that needs to be replaced, while obsolete equipment needs to be securely wiped, signed off from the asset management system and prepared for the disposal. Therefore, ICT Unit is looking forward to receive additional temporary assistance. The ICT Assistant will fill in as additional staff resource to cover duties of the ICT helpdesk, help with hardware replacement/disposal and cover peak periods of ICT activities.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

The ICT Assistant, under the supervision of Chief ICT Unit, supports ODIHR ICT personnel in carrying out their duties and performs the following duties:

  1. Preparing ICT hardware for disposal;
  2. Installing and configuring new ICT hardware;
  3. Helping with deployment and collection of ICT hardware to and from users;
  4. Installing additional non-standard software if necessary;
  5. Training of the ODIHR staff, preparing the manuals;
  6. Performing other duties as requested by supervisor.

 

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Completed secondary education;
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. For vacant positions in the General Service category, a first-level university degree in a relevant field may be considered as a substitute for one year of working experience, and an advanced university degree for two years working experience;
  • Experience with common ICT hardware equipment (laptops, printers, scanners, etc);
  • Experience in installation and maintaining standard Office applications;
  • Knowledge of mobile communication equipment (mobile phones, smartphones);
  • Working knowledge of English. Knowledge of other OSCE languages would be an asset;
  • Ability to work under time pressure and with tight deadlines;
  • Ability to work with people of different nationalities, religions and cultural backgrounds;
  • Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, and an ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities.

 

Remuneration:

Monthly remuneration, subject to social security deductions, is approximately PLN 5,800. OSCE salaries are exempt from taxation in Poland.

Social security will include participation in the Cigna medical insurance scheme (current approximate deduction for a staff member is 52 Euro).

Appointments are made at step 1 of the applicable OSCE salary scale.
