For our Client, well-known company from financial industry we are looking for a person interested in the role of Head of Data Engineering for EU region.
Your new role
Data Engineering department consists of over 1,000 IT staff delivering projects worth over xxx million per year globally and growing. The EU Engineering organisation which will be primarily based out of Kraków is envisaged to provide Regional Data Engineering support to the EU countries and be set up as a regional engineering center. The organisation will consist of individuals working both on global, regional and local data engineering projects in support of all Global Businesses and Global Functions possibly. The individual in this role will be responsible for all Data Engineering within the EU region (excluding France) and will work actively with the Global Data CIOs and Regional Data Officers as needed.
Responsibilities
The position holder will work closely with IS Business Partners, who are assigned to individual Global Businesses/Global Functions and are accountable for programme delivery and relationship management with the GB/GF. Business Partners will understand the strategic & tactical needs for Data & Information services and then configure & deliver programmes to meet these requirements. The Head of Data Engineering will work in conjunction with Business Partners to deliver solutions according to the prioritised demand.

Responsibilities
- Be responsible for financial and commercial management of infrastructure procurement, external service procurement, internal forecast and managing variances
- To ensure the demand pipeline is understood and the work is scheduled and communicated
- To sit in the IS MANCO and work with other stakeholders in delivering the data agenda

What you'll need to succeed
- Experience in an IT leadership role;
- Experience in data and information services field, in particular Hadoop technology delivery;
- Considerable commercial experience in a ‘Big Data’ environment, especially working with Hadoop;
- A wide knowledge of Software Delivery team structure;
- Exposure to all stages of the application development process, from specification & design, development & testing, through to implementation, and training;
- A wide knowledge of IT hardware, software, operations and networks;
- Proven experience in an IT and business environment with in-depth specialization in problem solving, metric analysis and quality improvement;
- A wide understanding of strategic and financial planning;
- Excellent working knowledge of quality principles (such as process management, project management and test methodologies);
- A track record of delivering complex programmes and projects;
- Experience of working within a complex, matrix layered, and multi stakeholder organisation;
- Experience of effectively coordinating delivery of services involving elements delivered by other internal/external teams.
- Excellent communication, co-ordination and interpersonal skills;
- Strong leadership and management ability, motivating IT employees;
- Proven ability to understand Data Quality, Metadata and Data Models;
- Working experience in Linux environment and other open source stack and technologies desirable;
- Working experience in Teradata and Celebrus applications desirable;
- Working experience in BI and Analytics tooling is desirable;
- Working experience in Master and Reference Data Management is desirable;
- Established financial and accounting acumen;
- Demonstrated ability to assess IT trends;
- Good understanding of IT policies, practices and opportunities;
