Your new role
This role exists to provide application database technical support and the management of database support services for a portfolio of IT applications across R&D. This role provides Incident, Problem, Request and Change Management activities for the portfolio of applications. The support services may be delivered entirely by the individual but will generally involve close interaction with several Strategic Partner and/or Vendor teams. The primary goal is to ensure that the levels and quality of IT service delivery are achieved in accordance with the agreed targets. In partnership with IT Directors, Product Support Engineers, Product Owners, Technical Leads and Business Systems Owners the role will propose innovative solutions in line with approved strategies to simplify the operating environment and lower the total cost of ownership of assigned applications/services.

Main responsibilities include:
Service Operations
- Provision of application DBA technical support of on-prem and cloud based applications with emphasis on database interactions. Incident, Problem, Change and Request Management (such as performance tuning and consultation) will be undertaken.
- Personally conduct, participate in and where necessary drive/lead individuals and teams through root cause analysis and potentially assist in any subsequent solution delivery.
- Responsible for ensuring that the Standard Processes are applied and adhered to including embedding and adopting standard ways of working in accordance with Security, Quality and Regulatory standards.
- Review support service delivery with Strategic Suppliers to ensure that agreed targets are met and prepare proposals to meet forecast changes in the level or type of service.
- Own and manage support demand backlog. Review and agree priorities with IT Support Director.
- Liaison with application vendors and R&D Tech support teams to ensure database support services are suitable and are maintained by the application support teams.
- Identification of improvements and innovative solutions that can be applied across Tech departments to lower costs and provide value.
Support strategy
- Maintain awareness of the future direction of database technologies, both within the company and the global market, and continually assess impact on support demand and requirements.
What you'll need to succeed
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
- ITIL Service Management foundation knowledge.
- Experience in application database support of on-premises and cloud hosted applications.
- Experience of industry database technologies (On-premises and Cloud), practices and frameworks e.g. ORACLE (including Oracle Performance Tuning), SQL Server, Postgres, MongoDB (NoSQL databases), MySQL, PL/SQL, UNIX.
- Proven experience of root cause analysis and technical remediation
- Client management skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Familiar with the Agile frameworks, design thinking into Agile ways of working.
- Fluent English.
