Job Description

To perform inspections, repairs, modifications and maintenance on complex hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic and electro-technical parts of new constructions or existing installations on (inter)national client sites.

Currently we are looking for:

 

Field Service Engineer

 

Installations may consist of all Cargotec-related products, such as truck-mounted cranes, quay cranes, ship cranes, ship hatches, Ro/Ro applications, offshore cranes, offshore winches and rolling stock (container handling trucks) on land or at sea. If relevant, products of other companies may also be serviced.

 

Failures

• Discuss task and schedule with the Service Coordinator/(Field) Operations Manager.

• Provide support (by telephone and on site) by asking targeted questions and following instructions of (inter)national clients.

• Consult manuals, drawings, wiring and control systems and repair history.

• Make a diagnosis.

• Eliminate complex failures by repairing or replacing connections and parts.

• Place orders with internal or external (inter)national suppliers for processing or producing parts, after consulting with the Service Coordinator/(Field) Operations Manager.

• Put the products into operation and check their proper operation.

• Inform the client about the cause of the failure.

• Make recommendations on how to prevent the failure from recurring.

• Report (recurring) failures caused by changed or new installation setups to (Field) Operations Manager/ Service Coordinator.

• Keep service car, tools (including welding and soldering equipment) and spare materials in a good state of repair.

• Support Field Service Engineers/Mechanics in making diagnoses during failures.

• Give training and practical guidance to Field Service Engineers/Mechanics

 

 

Maintenance/Damages

• Carry out complex preventive maintenance by checking the products for wear and tear and precision.

• Carry out complex complete or partial revisions by adjusting, replacing or cleaning up parts and processing/producing parts or having them processed/produced by internal or external suppliers.

• Carry out inspections (URZ17/sherlog/BMWT) and product inspections.

• Inform the client about the work that has been carried out.

• Assess complex damages to products and report findings and estimated costs of repair to Service Coordinator/(Field) Operations Manager.

 

New constructions

• Provide user instructions.

• Supervise the installation and commissioning of installations.

• Test products in the presence of classification authorities and test all safeties.

 

Administration

• Record and report materials used and hours spent.

• Order materials through the Service Coordinator/Warehouse Supervisor or directly from (inter)national suppliers.

• Draw up detailed internal service reports in accordance with URZ17 guidelines and Cargotec templates (inspection list).

 

Projects

• On a project basis, supervise, assist and train mechanics assigned from outside the company and Cargotec staff.

 

Commercial aspects

• Advise the client on the replacement of equipment and service contracts.

• Report purchase expectations to the Service Coordinator/(Field) Operations Manager

 

Requirements

Knowledge

• Company products and their operation.

• systematics of preventive maintenance of the products.

• hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical and electronic components of the products and their operation.

• reporting system (e.g. inspection reports, time sheets, service reports).

• ability to read electrotechnical, mechanical and hydraulic diagrams and drawings.

• measuring and hoisting techniques (measurements of current, stress and resistance)

• Welding and burning techniques

• Operating techniques (PLC and computer-controlled systems)

• hand tools and measuring instruments used

• shipping and maritime techniques

• contractual clauses with regard to maintenance and failures.

• methods to assess complex damages and carry out repairs.

• Company rules and safety rules of the client.

• method of managing people during project work.

• health and safety regulations, environmental regulations, quality regulations and inspection standards (VCA).

• method to form an opinion about the operational reliability and safety of the installation.

• Communication techniques and sales techniques (basic)

• Automated systems like Microsoft Office and systems developed by the organisation (C-parts, C-Service, Proper-T, SAP, FMT (database with client data, prices, article data))

• English and German, in order to be able to consult instruction manuals.

 

Manual skills

• Measuring of components by multimeter, laser alignment

• Welding of components (Mig/Tig certified), synthetic materials

• mounting/demounting of components by means of (electrical) hand tools (wrenches, right-angle grinder)

• Hoisting and pressing tools.

• Ultrasonic testers, hydraulic tensioners.

Works in confined spaces occasionally.

 

Powers

• Assessment of the nature of the failure, also on the basis of information supplied by the client.

• Determine the repair method.

• Find the optimsl technical solution, taking into account the consequences of, for instance, a shut-down.

• Call in technical support from external Product Specialists, in consultation with Service Coordinator.

• Authorised to perform electrical switching (medium voltage/high voltage)

• Stop work in unsafe situations.

• Order components needed for eliminating failures.

• Supervise assigned internal and external mechanics.

• Consult with the classification authority and come to an agreement with owner/class/surveyors.

Must consult with (Field) Operations Manager/Service Coordinator in case of high-cost damages, schedule overrun, work to be carried out on products of third parties.

 

Responsibilities

• Eliminate failures in the installation, start up and check the safe operation of the installation within the standard time period.

• Comply with Cargotec quality requirements and Code of Conduct

• Ensure that quality requirements and quality procedures are observed by the assigned staff.

• Handle administrative work and reporting.

• Keep tools, spare materials and, if relevant, service car in a good state of repair.

• Organise manpower (in consultation with the Service Coordinator/(Field) Operations Manager), tools and follow-up visits.

• Monitor progress and quality of the work carried out by the assigned colleagues.

 

Communication

• Exchange information during progress meetings with manager and colleagues.

• Report on the nature of the failure and any components that have been ordered to Service Coordinator.

• Divide and discuss the work among the assigned Field Service Engineers/Mechanics.

• Call in technical support from internal and external Product Specialists (extraordinary cases).

• Discuss the failure, advise on maintenance contracts, use, maintenance and replacement of the installation with (inter)national clients. (English/German)

• Exchange information with inspection institutes, classification institutes, subcontractors etc. (English/German)

 

Manage employees (6-12 on average)

Manage a team of (Allround) Field Service Engineers.

 

This includes:

• Giving directions and instructions.

• Dividing and inspecting the work carried out by the assigned Field Service Engineers/Mechanics (particularly the quality of the welds that were made).
