Our client is a professional FMCG and Food organization, based in France.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Civil Construction Manager (CM) is responsible for managing all the civil work within project scope and reports to the Site Manager. For preparatory civil work the CM might be on site before the SM/IM and might take over certain tasks from the SM in that time. He has an integral influence on the timing of the project, because a lot of the equipment installation and other suppliers depend on a certain advancement of the civil work before they can begin with their work. Depending on the project size he is supported by a small or large dedicated civil construction team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

◆ Coordination of all civil construction work in close cooperation with the civil contractors, SM/IM and customer
Control and monitoring of the following civil construction aspects
◆ Compliance to project schedule
Deliverable: Reporting of deviations and problems that might jeopardize the project milestones to the SM
Deliverable: Solutions to reduce impact of deviations or problems to a minimum
◆ Compliance to approved design (dimensions, levels, gutters, slopes, etc.)
◆ Compliance to agreed safety rules and labour protection rules, together with Manager SHE project
◆ Compliance to the local (and international) laws, rules, etc.
◆ Compliance to Heineken rules and standards
◆ Compliance of quality of construction materials to certificates, specifications and requirements (concrete, rebars, soil, etc.)
◆ Quality of the execution of the construction work
◆ Reviews and approves variations/deviations from the design together with designers/consultants according to agreed protocol and up to a maximum budget agreed upon with the GP&E PM
Deliverable: Completely signed Variation Order to PM (no budget impact or within agreed budget)
Deliverable: Completed Variation Order to PM for signing (above agreed budget)

Cost control:
◆ Monitors costs of construction works executed by the contractors; bookkeeping of direct cost and control of construction budget
◆ Manages the progress payments with quantity managers of civil contractors and reports to SM/PM
◆ Keeps track of minor and extra works of civil contractors via Plus/Minus lists

Other tasks:
◆ Attends daily/weekly (safety) meetings and organizes additional meetings with civil contracts if necessary
◆ Examination, approval and storage of the as-built drawings
◆ Manages and follows up the list of outstanding items (LOI) for the construction work after completion of the works
Deliverable: up-to-date lists
◆ Organises the commissioning of the building related MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing)
◆ Works in close cooperation with project SHE team to ensure safe working methods and SHE standards are applied by all the contractors during the complete construction phase and assists in setting up the project SHE plan
◆ Records and stores all contractual supplier deliverables (drawings, certificates, etc.) and sets up handing over documents
Deliverable: Ready-to-sign “constructions complete” protocol to SM

REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge & Experience:
◆ Excellent knowledge of construction works
◆ Experience in construction industry
◆ Civil engineering background
◆ Safety certificate (e.g. VCA-VOL, SG-SCC or equivalent)
◆ Experience with civil construction Management in international, complex projects
◆ Preferably experience with civil construction management in food & beverages industry

Languages:
◆ Fluent in English and preferably (basic level of) French (write/read/speak)

OTHER

◆ Strong planning (day to day planning, organizing meetings) and coordination skills with the ability to facilitate between the different parties and prioritize correctly
◆ Good communication and reporting skills using standard Heineken templates where available
◆ Good administration skills (keeping track of list of outstanding items, claims, issues, milestones, agreements, action lists, etc. in agreement with SM/PM) using standard Heineken templates where available
◆ Tough, but fair and respectful towards suppliers and customer in terms of communication and behaviour
◆ Convincing and motivating towards suppliers and customer
◆ Proactive “hands-on” mentality and thinks ahead (not only one day…)
◆ Flexible in terms of working hours (per day, start and end time) and physically fit
◆ Strong capability to keep the scope fixed (especially in a brownfield project)
◆ Strong focus on safety and quality following Heineken standards & procedures
◆ Enthusiastic, energetic, motivated, team player with respect to the local culture
◆ Result oriented, decisive, accurate and pragmatic
