Business Analyst

Location: Krakow
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

You will join global IT team in Global Banking & Markets (GBM) which is the "investment bank" for HSBC. Our businesses generate millions of transactions across a range of financial markets. Our IT teams design and develop modern systems covering all aspects - trading in the markets, sales and customer tools, handling transactions and building financial and regulatory reporting.

The Surveillance IT team is a department within HSBC's Global Banking & Markets IT function. The team is responsible for the software and hardware underpinning the firms' primary Trade, eComms, Voice and Unauthorised Trading applications. Our clients are internal users from the Regulatory Compliance function, who are responsible for the definition of surveillance techniques and models, the monitoring of alerts, and the management of any subsequent investigations and reports into suspicious activity.

The Business Analyst role will sit within the Global Market Surveillance programme and its primary responsibility is analysis of business needs and other issues relating to the IT surveillance platform.

The purpose of this role is to complete tasks assigned to the BA team in support of meeting the objectives outlined on the programme's IT Book of Work. The tasks will include data mapping analysis, requirements elicitation and functional specifications and participating in the testing process. Strong business analysis skills is a must.


RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Completion of tasks assigned by the Project/Programme managers to agreed timescales, scope and quality measures
  • Analysis and documentation of business requirements
  • Production of detailed functional specifications in order for a development team / vendor to meet the required business outcome
  • Specification and documentation of surveillance analytics to a standard which would bear scrutiny by an internal audit or external regulators
  • The Identification, analysis and validation of multiple data elements including Trade, Reference and Market data sources
  • The participation in testing cycles, working with the System Testers to ensure adequate test scripts have been built and run, assisting users with acceptance testing
  • Assisting in the training of key business users
  • Leading, facilitating and participation in meetings / workshops
  • Peer Review of BA team artifacts when required to ensure consistency and quality standards
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant internal instructions (FIMs, GSMs, circulars), internal control standards and external regulatory requirements, including the management of operational risk and adherence to the Group's standards of ethical behavior
  • Following the HSBC Disciplined Agile methodology, adhering to production of all necessary documentation

SKILLS

MUST
  • Excellent Global Markets / Investment Banking knowledge across a number of products including Equities, Fixed Income, FX and related Derivatives
  • Excellent Front to Back (full) Trade Lifecycle knowledge
  • Extensive data analysis, data mapping, functional and technical business analysis experience in finance industry
  • Excellent knowledge of the project lifecycle and application development process including best practice methodologies
  • Proven, significant and demonstrable experience of analysing and documenting business requirements for global applications
  • Practical experience in functional analysis and design, utilising different methodologies i.e. Use Cases, Business Process Modelling within a Waterfall or Agile Project environment
  • Proven, significant and demonstrable experience of following a structured approach to analysis, including the preparation of all related artefacts (e.g. functional system specifications, data feed specifications, etc.)
  • Strong technical written communication skills
  • Familiarity with ETL frameworks
  • A proven track record of implementing market abuse surveillance solutions at Tier 1 investment banks covering multiple asset classes (or similar front office regulatory programmes e.g. MiFID 2)
  • Previous experience of working with Agile methodology (using JIRA & KANBAN)

NICE TO HAVE
  • Understanding of database design principles will aid in data analysis and the definition of ETL processes
  • Font Office IT experience
  • Previous exposure to Actimize Trade Surveillance solutions, or similar competitor offerings
