Our client is a professional Pharmaceutical organization, based in Netherlands.

Our Client is committed to developing first-in-class or best-in-class vaccines for some of the world’s most life-threatening infectious diseases. We have built a dedicated, world-class, multi-functional team across a variety of disciplines to develop a promising vaccines pipeline. In Leiden, we have a workforce of 700 scientists and support staff.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The USP department is responsible for the development of scalable, pharmaceutical-grade production processes for viral vaccines using mammalian cell lines as a production platform. Novel technologies are used to make sure that the processes are safe, reliable, scalable and cost-effective, so that the vaccines can be produced in large quantities at low costs. The developed production processes are transferred into GMP production facilities for the production of clinical batches and scaled-up for commercial production. All activities are performed in close collaboration with other departments.

RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for a motivated Assistant Scientist upstream process development. As part of a team you will plan, prepare and execute bioreactor and cell culture experiments, which are part of scientific studies supervised by a Scientist. You will be responsible for analyzing the results and basic reporting. You will have ownership of some of the process equipment in the lab, being the responsible person for troubleshooting, calibration and maintenance if needed, and keeping all documentation up-to-date. Additionally, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of our internal systems and working processes, supporting the lab head and EHS coordinator.

REQUIREMENTS

- B.Sc (HLO) in a relevant discipline, or a MLO with at least 4 years of experience in biotechnology or pharmacy.
- Hands-on experience with bioreactors, preferably at lab-scale in an R&D environment.
- Experience with culturing mammalian cells.
- Experience with working at BSL-2 level is an advantage, as is working knowledge of quality systems like GMP.
- Good communication skills in English, written and spoken.

- Duration of the contract: 28/02/2019 (+ possible extensions)
- Start date: 01/03/2018
- After your training period, your will occasionally be expected to work during weekend hours.
