Technical Writer II is primarily responsible for preparing release notes, updating existing documentation, and creating new documentation, which can range from end-user task-oriented online help to more technical installation and administration guides. To produce documentation, Technical Writer II interviews subject matter experts, reviews internal documents, and learns how to use the software we build. Additionally, Technical Writer II adheres to established style guidelines. Ideally, Technical Writer II can participate in taking raw information and determining how to arrange and deliver it to users. Technical Writer II performs other duties as assigned, including editing Eagle Software Bulletins (ESBs) and Knowledge Base Articles, or creating other types of product documentation as needed.

 

Responsibilities

  • Create, edit, and update a variety of documentation, including end-user guides, administration guides, configuration guide, installation guides, and online help.
  • Interact with technical and subject matter experts to gather and verify information
  • Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers.
  • Edit documentation from other departments for grammar and syntax upon request.
  • Employ departmental guidelines for documentation style, organization, and content.
  • Take large amounts of information and structure it into meaningful, accessible content.
  • Edit documentation from other departments for grammar and syntax upon request.
  • Manage documentation projects from inception to publication.
  • Participate in peer reviews or in other management-directed document reviews.
  • Focus on both internal and external customer satisfaction and seek new ways to improve end-user documentation based on feedback from colleagues.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • B.A. in Technical Communication, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Coursework or training in Technical Communication is desirable.
  • 3-5 years’ experience as a technical writer or editor, preferably in the software or financial industries.
  • Exceptional fluency in both spoken and written English.
  • Strong people skills, project management skills, and time management skills.
  • Flexible and patient; a fast learner; curious and unafraid to ask questions.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe RoboHelp, and Adobe Acrobat, TechSmith Snag-It, and other similar publishing tools.
  • Exposure to and/or experience with Wikis and Wiki creation tools a plus; knowledge of Madcap Flare or Seapine ALM TestTrack (or other bug-tracking software) a plus.
  • Ability to understand technical software engineering terms/concepts and then rewrite and organize for the non-technical user.
  • Comfortable knowledge of computer applications.
  • Ability to deliver documentation on a strict deadline.
  • Ability to multi-task and be successful in a fast-paced, high-performance team.
