We are looking for a dynamic individual who has a solid grounding in Solvency II and is seeking their next opportunity to develop. This open role is within our Dublin Finance team, focusing on Solvency II, which sits in parallel to our US GAAP and UK GAAP teams. This is an exciting opportunity for a diligent and experienced Solvency II accountant to both broaden and deepen their knowledge in a fast-paced, evolving organization operating in a changing environment.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Competent in Solvency II rules and guidance, and being able to advise or discuss with others as appropriate, including senior management.
  • Assist with for the preparation of Solvency II reports which will involve planning, review, and analysis for senior management within predefined timelines.
  • Assist with the completion of the end to end Solvency II reporting for one Irish Axa XL legal entity, taking GAAP data and applying Solvency II valuation and reporting rules.
  • Assisting where necessary with Solvency II reporting for other Group entities. Ensure group accounting policies are consistently and effectively applied;
  • Responding to CBI questions on Solvency II submissions in a timely and proficient manner.
  • Liasing with other functions such as Actuarial, Risk Management, Reinsurance and Compliance to exchange data, answer questions and ensure consistency of reporting.
  • Assisting with the production of Standard Formula calculations for one Axa XL legal entity. Opportunity to influence strategy through capital planning.
  • Production of board and management reporting, including acting as a point of contact for any subsequent queries or questions.
  • Responding in a timely and competent manner to questions from External and Internal Auditors;
  • Assist with the embedding of robust procedures and processes to ensure and maintain the integrity of entity regulatory reporting as well as proactively thinking of, and implementing, any opportunities for process improvement as Solvency II is still a new and evolving requirement
  • Assist with ad hoc tasks as necessary (including projects such as mergers of other Group entities and the impact of Solvency II).

You will report to the Senior Specialist, Financial Reporting and Accounting.

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

Education/Qualifications/Experience

  • University degree in any discipline is preferred
  • Professional Accountancy Qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or similar) is essential
  • 4 to 5 years post-qualification relevant experience gained working within general (re) insurance technical accounting/reporting areas including specific Solvency II experience

Skills and Abilities:

  • Good spoken & written communication & interpersonal skills; ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience
  • Experience with Solvency II reporting is preferred.
  • Production of timely, accurate and reliable financial information;
  • Ability to manage time, work to tight deadlines, prioritise and adapt to changing requirements
  • Strong Accounting knowledge (US GAAP, IFRS and UK/Irish GAAP, Solvency II), having grasp of overall Financial Statements (P&L and BS)
  • Strong analytical skills, with an inquisitive attitude, with attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain a strong and robust control environment , i.e. ensure Solvency II returns are reconciled to external sources with explanations supporting reconciling differences
  • Able to remain focused and proactive in working towards deliverables with the confidence to challenge managers and colleagues, both financial and non-financial, on accuracy of information
  • Ability to “take a step back” i.e. to understand the results of their own work to ensure they make sense in a business sense and to ensure accuracy
