Microbiology is one of the core expertise areas of NIZO and is highly valued by our industrial partners.
 

For the expansion of our microbiology team, we are searching for an experienced and enthusiastic

Industrial / Technical Food Microbiologist

32-40 h/week

to apply knowledge and offer hands-on experience in working with micro-organisms that play a role in production of food with a focus on safety and spoilage.

Other specific areas of expertise are shelf life, troubleshooting and identifications. Among the techniques used are classical microbiology (detection, isolation, quantification, identification and characterization of pathogenic micro-organisms, trace-forming micro-organisms, heat-resistant spore-forming micro-organisms, strict anaerobic micro-organisms, yeasts and fungi; bacteriophages and viruses), process technology (fermentations, pasteurisations / sterilisations e.g. batch heating, Micro-Heater, Flip and Combitherm and process audits / microbial troubleshooting) and molecular biology (DNA isolation, general PCR, specific PCR, 16S Sequence analysis, population dynamics, DNA fingerprint analyses, BioNumerics software for DNA analysis and data management).
 

 

  • translate research questions into laboratory approaches;
  • recording, interpreting and reporting of experimental data;
  • developing new experimental laboratory methods and techniques;
  • working together in multidisciplinary teams with project managers, scientists and research specialists.


Your profile:

  • a practical and pro-active professional with a BSc degree in microbiology;
  • demonstrable relevant laboratory experience;
  • at least 5 years of experience in the industrial field;
  • organized, accurate and pragmatic;
  • excellent communication skills (also in English);
  • a self-starter, pro-active, result-driven, creative and customer directed;
  • a flexible team player.
