The Company

They develop vaccines that are the first or best in their class and protect against some of the world's most life-threatening infectious diseases. The pathogens against which vaccines are developed include Ebola, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Extra-intestinal Pathogenic E. coli (ExPEC), Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA), polio and influenza.

Role Description

The Formulation Development group is part of the Drug Product Development department, and is responsible for the full trajectory of formulation development from early to late stage, ensuring optimal product stability and safety. Responsibilities include developing and optimizing complex formulations of investigational drug products, primary packaging, (novel) adjuvants, as well as conducting (clinical in-use) stability studies.

As Associate Director you manage the Formulation Development group of 20 people, connect and collaborate with different departments and organizations, and you represent the the Drug Product Development department in governance bodies as required.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Formulation Development activities for the CMC project portfolio and for continuous improvement projects, balancing supply and demand budgets.
• Define, execute and adapt the functional strategy based on current and expected CMC projects, covering:
• Connect and collaborate with other teams within Drug Product Development, the Vaccine Process & Analytical Development organization, as well as with other organizations within the company.
• Cultivate internal and external relationships and partnerships.
• Stimulate innovative problem solving and creation of Intellectual Property.
• Manage and improve team dynamics and support personal development of the different team members

Requirements

• PhD or MSc in relevant discipline, like pharmaceutical sciences or (bio)chemistry
• Must have a minimum of 8 years of (hands on) industry experience, most preferably in formulation development or related areas (vaccines or large molecules)
• Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the scientific and technological concepts behind the activities executed in the formulation development department, as well as knowledge of applicable quality and regulatory guidelines and industry standards.
• Must have line management and project governance experience.
• People leader skills: manages and improves team dynamics and supports personal development of the different team members.
