Description
- Analyze Customer technical requirements and transform into product definition: Sizing, BOM, Functional targets, Drawings, DVP&R, technical presentation
- Create DVP&R & PVP&R, Track internal and external testing to meet project milestones. Create Engineering reports
- Support sales/quote function for new business acquisition
- Facilitate D-FMEA reviews and Identify Design Characteristics (Significant Characteristics and Critical Characteristics)
- Manage engineering changes for drawing and/or engineering BOM (Bill of Material) release
- Review and approve all customer/internal drawings
- Define & maintain program BOMs
- Define Prototype design and quality. Track prototype quality. Coordinate prototype requirements with customer and testing
- Provide PD support for manufacturing issues, new model launches and technical support on customer issues
- Organize and facilitate periodic design reviews
- Obtain necessary customer approvals
- Ability to direct basic Computer Aided Engineering analysis (FEA &modal analysis) on driveline components and systems
- Able to read and interpret prints, specifications, and design documentation
- Ability to lead a team through Design and APQP process
- Support robust APQP process with suppliers and customers including supplier PPAP review and sign off on design requirements.
- Support root cause analysis, analyze and approve deviations, provide risk assessment.
- Support root cause analysis activities related to warranty or quality returns, initiating 8D reporting as necessary
- Implement product design improvements (robustness, performance, cost)
Profile
Minimum Requirements
- Completed Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME or equivalent)
- Demonstrated technical and professional skills in the job related area with a minimum of 3 years experience in the automotive industry
- High level of oral & written communication skills in English & German
- High level of analytical ability
- High level of interpersonal skills to work independently & effectively with others
- Good understanding of GD&T
- Good organizational skills
- Good business acumen and desire to learn
- Ability to travel domestically between company's locations
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Engineering (MSME or equivalent)
- Design & release experience with driveline, powertrain, or chassis systems
- Familiarity with CAE tools, Six Sigma quality techniques, and powertrain NVH
- CAD experience - Catia/NX
- Familiarity with iron forgings, castings, heat treat, and weld techniques
- Familiarity with IATF 16949 and automotive PPAP requirements
- Proven track record of team leadership, problem solving, and working with International teams
- Ability to travel internationally between the company and supplier global locations
