Job description:

This Sr. Systems Engineer will be reporting to the IT Manager within Platform Engineering. This senior member of the Platform Engineering team will be required to directly influence the future direction of the client’s global server technology.
A core requirement of this candidate will be to have a passion to innovate and drive for enterprise level technology solutions, while displaying personal accountability for results and an uncompromising dedication to quality.
This candidate will need the ability to gain buy-in from management on courses of action that reflect an understanding of business objectives and the cost implications.
This Sr. Systems Engineer while respecting diverse contributions from other systems engineers will be expected to provide this cross functional team guidance on a course action that might not be readily understood by the more junior members of the team.
Our client’s plans for 2010 involve the consolidation and virtualization of the server infrastructure and introduce new tools and technology to create greater agility, efficiencies and effectiveness in OS deployments, OS patching, Server and Storage monitoring and configuration management. This candidate will need to fully assimilate with these 2010 plans and provide immediate implementation recommendations for the new server infrastructure making sure these recommendations also interface with the ongoing storage strategy.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Lead efforts to plan, establish and continuously improve the server refresh process while taking advantage of new OS and server hardware technology to allow for datacenter consolidation, power management and load balance applications between data centers.
• Drive innovations in server technology by staying current with new vendor offerings.
• Understand the client’s Technology Adoption Process and use it to lead POC’s efforts for the assessment of new server technologies.
• Factor in the disaster recovery requirements into server refresh recommendation to insure all SLA’s are honored.
• As part of the refresh process, interface with various lines of business and IT departments (application, systems management, engineering, architecture, technical staff, etc.) in support of business requirements and service-level objectives.
• Create infrastructure solutions for server refresh efforts and for other business requests outside of the server refresh program.
• Ensure close alignment with all the client’s IT vendor partners
• Meet as required with application development teams to understand their application functions and lead the effort to provide a solution and execution plan for the Application Development and Global Operations teams to understand and take ownership for eventual execution.
• Creates documentation for solutions and develops runbooks for operational support staff as necessary

Wymagania

Requirements

• Candidate must have proven track record in performing in the responsibilities outlined above, experience in working within a global and distributed team, excellent verbal and written communication; ability to convey complex information in solution design documentation and comfortable in the presentation of materials and to project teams and management
• Expertise in mid-range servers and operating systems utilizing the following technologies: SUN Solaris 10 LDOMS and containers, IBM AIX , LPARS, VIO and PowerVM, RedHat Linux 4 & 5, Windows 2003 & 2008, IBM or HP Blades, SUN E and T series, IBM pSeries
• Experience with virtual servers on Intel using either Vmware or Microsoft Hyper-V in a large scale deployment
• Experience with server migration and OS deployment tools such as IBM Director, HP Insight Manager and Bladelogic.
• Ability to work autonomously within a team, self drive, enthusiasm and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and demands, ability to manage pressures and stress in the face of opposition, ambiguity and pressing deadlines
Qualifications
• B.S. Computer Science or equivalent experience preferred
• At least 7 years in a similar position
• While ITIL Foundation Certification is not a requirement for this position, experience or certification is a plus
• Fluent English
