Scala Developer

We work on a trade clearing system for the investment banking arm of HSBC. The entire codebase is in Scala, written by a team of agile developers who expect you to uphold their high standards.
Our project is an investment banking application. Changes have to be delivered on regular basis to meet organization’s expectations. Due to nature of our system it requires high customer trust therefore we put very strong emphasis on reliablitiy and quality, which is achieved by:
extensive automated tests suite which provide quality assurance and detect broad range of problems
multiple non-production environments cover various types of testing and development
frequent releases minimize risk of potential negative impact
automated constant monitoring of running applications and environments
production support team accessible 24/7 so developers can have better focus on coding
while coding we strongly rely on knowledge sharing (mostly pair programming and discussions)
Delivering robust code builds up trust of our stakeholders which gives us more freedom in choosing technology. Architecture based on a number of highly decoupled microservices allows us to smoothly upgrade technology stack and to familiarize with the system step by step. Thanks to having a business analyst developers can focus on coding.
We work with such tools as: IntelliJ, Git, SBT, Akka, Lift, Spray, ScalaZ, REST, Linux, continuous integration
Main Duties:
- Write the code following TDD technique
- Write automated tests to describe the required behavior
- Follow clean code principles (small commits, releasable master etc.)
- Refactor any code when you feel it is required
- Attend planning sessions and daily standups
- Work in pairs as often as possible and share knowledge
Position requirements:
- Understand and write Scala code
- Cover your code with automated tests
- Simplify existing code if possible
- Automate your work environment
- Challenge requirements
- Understand the definition of done
- Communicate clearly in English (both verbal and written)
