Scala Programmer with Agile Experience

The entire codebase is in Scala, written by a team of agile developers who expect you to uphold their high standards.
This is a critical investment banking application. The organization expects changes to be delivered regularly and quickly. Therefore, we have a very strong emphasis on quality, including fully automated testing, continuous delivery and systematic pair programming.
Our system consists of a number of microservices that use a range of Scala libraries to get the job done. We expect you to be capable of designing new business services with RESTful endpoints, and you will be expected to choose the right libraries and designs for the job.
We use git for version control, deploy to Linux, have a mostly-automated delivery pipeline, use Akka, some Scalaz and Shapeless, Lift, Spray and various other libraries that are probably familiar to you. Some we like, some we think of as valuable learning experiences.
Main Duties:
- Each week, you should expect to:
- Analyse new requirements and discuss them with your colleagues and the business
- Write automated tests to describe the required behavior
- Write the code to make it happen
- Demo the code to the business and incorporate feedback
- Arrange for the code to be released to production
- Refactor any code you feel requires it
- Support the code in production
Requirements:
- You can read Scala fluently
- You only commit code when you can prove that it works
- You only release code when you can prove you haven’t broken anything else
- You are relentless in your desire to simplify existing code
- You are relentless in your desire to automate your work environment
- When you are given a long-running task, you will follow it through until the code is delivered, and continue to support it in production
- You will immediately point out errors or inconsistencies in business requirements, and suggest a better way
- You will pair-programme as often as possible, and share knowledge and code generously
