Java Development Specialist

Within HSBC’s Global Banking and Markets IT department, Prime Finance (PF) technology is responsible for the delivery of innovative technology solutions for the PF business to enable maximized revenue performance while minimizing costs. Current departmental projects include, among many others, the development of securities borrowing and lending trading system, inventory management and business services used across different trading desks. The department is committed to the production of high-quality enterprise-strength software and has a change agenda that extends way beyond 2016. This makes PF technology a dynamic, challenging and rewarding place to work. We are now inviting an experienced professional to join our team.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Understanding business initiatives through regular interactions with project managers, business analysts and development managers,
- Work closely with local and global development teams in overall solution design and technical design activities,
- Deliver high-quality Java server-side software solution in a timely fashion. Any software developed is rigorously unit tested (including but not limited to automated unit tests), satisfies the requirements while adhering to the technical design and existing departmental standards and best practices for software development,
- Provide support and bug fixing as needed throughout the project lifecycle,
- Provide implementation support during release and ongoing third-level support of the production environment.
Requirement:
- University graduate with working experience in software development, ideally
- multi-tier / real time applications,
- Strong knowledge of Java server-side and relational database management
- systems. Candidate will be tested,
- Solid understanding of object orientation,
- Knowledge and experience in Hibernate/JPA, Spring, Spring Integration, Web
- services, JMS/Messaging, Oracle (PL/SQL), HSQL and Apache ActiveMQ is a must,
- Knowledge and experience in ActivePivot development and MDX is a plus,
- Recent working experience in investment banking particularly prime synthetic,
- securities lending, equity repo and collateral trading. Strong technical candidate
- without banking experience will also be considered,
- Full software life-cycle experience in commercial environments,
- Demonstrable track record of delivery,
- Good communication, both written and spoken,
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team,
- Ability to learn fast and rapidly assimilate new business requirements,
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize,
- Disciplined approach, able to follow process and suggest improvements where
- necessary,
- Knowledge of enterprise application integration patterns, online analytical
- processing and multi-dimensional analytics is a plus,
- Working experience in test driven development and regression test automation is
- a plus,
- Working knowledge of SunGard Global One, MARTINI, and Sophis is a plus.
