Database Administrator

Job specification:

• Ensures that system data can be stored and retrieved efficiently, reliably and securely
• Installs and configures the database software
• Plans or implements migration of data or operations between database products, versions or environments
• Devises and operates database resilience and recovery mechanisms
• Designs and documents, or validates, the database schema such that data stored in the system is understood and efficiently stored and retrieved
• Maintains the data services through monitoring and ongoing capacity planning
• Performs performance monitoring and tuning throughout the solution lifecycle considering data import/export and backup/recovery in addition to runtime or batch SQL performance
• Diagnoses and resolves problems with the database implementation including exceptional data recovery or transfer procedures
• Understands and articulates database features, licences and associated costs and benefits
• Migrates data between database instances
• Understands the legislation associated with data storage and retrieval
• Ensures that all work is consistent with defined standards where standards exist and to withstand professional scrutiny in any case
• Ensures high quality and delivery standards are met and consistently deliver quality outcomes on time and within estimate
• Works as a member of a team, collaborates with other team members and participates in technical discussions and conversations with customers
• Demonstrates the professionalism to reflect on and improve personal performance
• Whilst the solutions in question have been developed using Microsoft technologies, the most challenging support requirements involve the resolution of issues in application data and transactional processing managed by SQL stored procedures and SSIS packages

Requirements:

• Very good knowledge of SQL and databases such as Microsoft SQL
• Knowledge of Linux operating system
• Fluency in spoken English (min. B2)
• Excellent communication and time management skills
• Ability to grasp business context
• Capacity to produce innovative solutions to complex problems
• Previous responsibility for developing and implementing approaches
• Designing, implementing and documenting database implementations, and leading in the construction and maintenance of complex database systems
• Assisting the capacity planning and hardware design for database server(s)
• Designing and documenting, or validating, the data access mechanisms to guarantee that transactions are processed reliably and data is efficiently stored and retrieved

Optional requirements:

• Practical experience with the following technologies would be a plus:
• C#
• CSS
• HTML
• IIS configuration
• Resolution of issues in MS SQL scripts and stored procedures
• Strong data skills – the ability to grasp and handle data transformation and manipulation
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
