Your new company
Is a prestigious research institute with a number of leading scientists carrying out cutting edge research. They are looking to add new members to their bioinformatics and data analysis teams to help drive forward their research through successful collaborations.
Their offices are located in a fantastic location, and the organisation has a very good benefits package and social atmosphere.

Your new role
You will be working as a bioinformatician within the wider team, focused towards data analysis, working closely with group leaders, researchers and other collaborators on a wide variety of data analysis focused projects, primarily aimed at NGS analysis from plants and crops.
You will also be acting as a point of contact for a number of researchers on collaborative projects and helping develop tools and/or workflows / pipelines.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Investigating methods and tools for analysis of varied biological data sets (primarily NGS);
  • Acting as a consultant on the best data analysis methods for projects with research groups;
  • Liaising with stakeholders, collaborating partners and researchers to solve technical problems;
  • Programming in R and/or Python;
  • Data analysis, especially of NGS and wider genomic data sets, eg WGS or RNA-Seq;
  • Data interpretation and data wrangling;
  • Working across multiple concurrent projects;
  • Working closely with other researchers on papers / publications;
  • Developing basic protocols for wet-lab biology researchers to follow for data analysis on systems such as Galaxy.

What you'll need to succeed
As well as excellent communication, problem solving and team-working skills, you should have:

  • A BSc / MSc (or equivalent experience) in bioinformatics, statistics, mathematics, computer science or life sciences, with higher degrees (eg PhD) strongly preferred;
  • Strong experience with statistical analysis of NGS and other biological data sets (eg using multivariate approaches), ideally within plant / crop science;
  • Hands-on programming /scripting skills, ideally with Python or R, although skills with languages such as Matlab, C/C++, Java, or Perl would also be useful;
  • A track record of working with databases, ideally biological, and using languages such as SQL to write queries; and
  • Data visualisation and analysis.

Candidates with a publication record (or evidence of presentations at conferences) are preferred for this role.

What you'll get in return
The chance to work on a variety of innovative bioinformatics projects within genomic science, collaborating closely with a variety of researchers, and working on projects with significant real-world impact.
You'll also have excellent development and progression opportunities, and a great working atmosphere.
