Application Solution Architect
Job Purpose Statement:
Provides technical advice and solutions regarding complex application and application architecture design initiatives/issues. Includes leading/participating in the IT aspects of EMEA projects and participation in assigned global projects. Ensures all actions comply with IT corporate standards which incorporates SOX requirements.
Key Accountabilities:
Business & Technical Knowledge- Develops an in depth knowledge of current and emerging methodologies, technologies and standards related to required aspects of applications and application architecture used within the FedEx EMEA (regional and corporate). Develops a good understanding of the key functions/companies within the FedEx business and how these inter-relate to deliver the business goals. Uses structured processes to share knowledge with relevant areas. Includes coaching less experienced peers.
Project Management- Focuses on leading assigned stages of IT projects, which are typically the most complex and/or global projects which (eGSP, Genius, Olympus etc). Develops the detailed project deliverables (technical design of applications, databases security etc) including resource requirements (costs, people, time, tools etc). Monitors and reviews progress, taking appropriate actions to ensure on time achievement of the project deliverables.Provides post implementation support plans and actual support to resolve issues when needed.
Project compliance-Consolidates and performs timely reviews of critical IT technical documentation for assigned projects. Ensures that it is accurate, complete and compliant with corporate and EMEA standards. Takes appropriate actions to address any gaps.
Recommending direction- Leads assigned research projects to identify and evaluate developments and trends within FedEx or the global business environment (changing development environment, service-oriented architecture, package tracking technology etc). Develops and presents recommendations to executive/ senior management that include impact on the business and current IT, ROI, life-span of solution. May lead the implementation of the proof of concept.
Standards & processes- Participates in the process to translate corporate IT standards and processes into detailed implementation plans. These need to incorporate the EMEA IT and regulatory environment, the global development process and SOX requirements. For areas not covered by corporate requirements, leads the process to define regional IT standards and processes that ensure consistent and effective management of the application portfolio (defining architecture, application support procedures, development standards etc).
Measurement tools- Develops, recommends and creates effective metrics and innovative measurement tools to enable management to track and report progress of IT application and architecture activities and results. Complexity is increased with the need to cover in house teams and multiple vendors with different delivery models (systems, processes, structure etc).
Vendor evaluation- Focuses on the identification and/or evaluation of vendors, products and consultancy relating to complex/high value applications and application architecture. Develops recommendations that best support the business goals whilst complying with corporate standards. Manages vendor performance against defined service and cost criteria incorporated within the service level agreement. Includes timely identification and resolution of issues encountered. Escalates any serious or repetitive issues to management.
Test Plans- Designs and develops effective test plans for the most complex integration testing. These need to cover diverse and complex functional and technical aspects that are customised to each specific project/situation. Performs high level structured reviews of execution plans to ensure test results meet requirements.
